The Top Manawatū Remote Working Hotspots

Brew Union

Ready to churn out a good day’s work? Connect to Brew Union’s free Wi-Fi, grab one of their blankets and head outside to snuggle up on their heated courtyard seats. With great music coming through the speakers and even greater beer on tap, Brew Union is an awesome place to work away a cruisy afternoon. Then, at the end of the day when it’s time to put away your laptop, you can settle in for some post-work beers and a wood-fired pizza. What could be better?

Cafe Royale

Tucked away in the heart of the city, Cafe Royale is the perfect place to settle in. There’s ever-changing local artwork adorning the walls and a delectable range of beverages to keep you warm over the cooler months (including ginger lattes and coconut hot chocolates – yum!). With an incredible vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu, Cafe Royale has a sun-drenched courtyard, a licensed bar, and free Wi-Fi, hitting pretty much every spot on our remote working wishlist.

Palmerston North City Library

If you’re looking for somewhere a bit quieter to hunker down, Palmerston North City Library is the place to get you in the zone. There’s chilled water on tap, free and fast Wi-Fi, access to printers, newspapers and meeting rooms, and when you need a break, you can take a short walk through to George Street where you’ll find cafes, restaurants and boutique shops.

Open Monday to Friday 9 am – 6 pm, Saturday 10 am – 4 pm, Sunday 1 pm – 4 pm.

Palmerston North City Library, 4 The Square

George Street is a Palmerston North gem and home to several fantastic cafes and restaurants. One of our favorites is Barista Cafe. Complete with a huge surrealist mural that captures the eye before you even walk in, Barista is fully stocked (and licensed) with all the tasty food, coffee and teas you’ll need to keep you going while you work. Living beneath the city library has its advantages, too, frequent library users can reach Wi-Fi from the cafe and connect for free.

Open Monday to Sunday 8 am until very late.

Wholegrain Organics

With a delicious plant-based menu and shelves lined with organic fruit, veges, other ingredients, and nifty eco-products, this light-filled space is ideal to park up over lunch and work. Best of all, Wholegrain Organics is a not-for-profit organization – they teach schoolkids how to cook healthy meals in a professional environment using organic and ethically sourced ingredients, including flour and grains produced in their own mill! So, why not support a local business that’s doing good things for your body while also doing good things for your community?

Open Monday to Wednesday 10 am – 6 pm, Thursday 10 am – 9 pm, Friday 10 am – 2.30pm.

Wholegrain Organics, 134 The Square

The Factory

The Factory is a co-working space that was made for Instagram. A refurbished dairy factory with lots of sunlight to keep you warm during those long cold winter days, meeting rooms, offices, and desks for hire, and communal tables available for free booking – it’s unlike any other co-working space in Palmy. The Factory is just a short walk from Massey University’s Turitea campus and with regular food truck visits – there are lots of opportunities to meet and chat with some of Manawatu’s brightest minds.

The Factory, 21 Dairy Farm Road

Moxies Cafe is a must-try location for workers on the go. It has great brekkie and lunch options, hot chocolate made with real chocolate and is full of friendly locals. With the added bonus of free parking for one hour (in the Harvey Norman car park), it’s perfect for meetings or to get in the zone.

Open Monday to Sunday at 7 am – 8 pm.

Focal Point – Feilding

If you’re looking for a place to set up on your laptop in Feilding, Focal Point is the place to go. It’s warm, has InspireNet’s free Wi-Fi, great food and drink options, free parking and it’s close to the Friday morning Farmers’ Market if you feel like having a wander. If you need a break, Focal Point is also a boutique movie theatre… we won’t tell if you don’t.
